1. Local Processing Architecture
pdfed is different. Unlike other online PDF editors that require you to upload your sensitive documents to their servers, pdfed operates entirely within your web browser.
This means:
- Your PDF files never leave your device.
- We cannot see, access, or store your documents.
- All edits, signatures, and redactions happen locally using JavaScript technologies built into your browser.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
We are committed to your privacy. pdfed does not collect:
- PDF document content, metadata, or filenames
- Personal information (name, email, address, phone number)
- Browsing history or activity
- Device identifiers or fingerprints
- Location data
- Usage analytics or statistics
We do NOT use:
- Google Analytics or third-party tracking cookies
- Server-side logging of user activity
- Ad retargeting pixels
3. Data We Store Locally
The extension uses your browser's local storage to save user preferences on your device. This data never leaves your device and includes:
- Toolbar position and settings
- Saved signatures (stored locally only)
- Custom stamps (stored locally only)
You can clear this data at any time through your browser's extension settings.
4. Browser Permissions
The extension requires certain permissions to function. Each permission is used solely for the stated purpose:

| activeTab | Access the current PDF document for editing when you click the extension icon. Limited to the active tab only. |
| scripting | Inject the PDF editing toolbar and tools into the page containing your PDF. |
| Host Permissions | Required to activate on PDF files. The extension only activates on pages displaying PDF documents. |
These permissions are the minimum required to provide PDF editing functionality and do not enable data collection.
5. Third-Party Services
pdfed is a standalone extension. We do not transmit your PDF documents or personal data to any third-party services.
Font Loading: The extension loads stylized handwriting fonts from Google Fonts for the signature feature. This request only fetches font files (CSS and WOFF2) and does not transmit any document data or personal information. Google may receive your IP address as part of this standard web request. No document content is ever shared.

6. Data Security
Since pdfed processes all documents locally within your browser:
- Your documents benefit from your browser's built-in security sandbox
- No data is transmitted over the network for processing
- There are no servers that could be breached to expose your data
- Files are processed in memory and not written to disk by the extension
7. Children's Privacy
pdfed does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the extension does not collect personal data from any users, it complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the extension update notes in the Chrome Web Store.
